The United Nations....... the next world power?

Revelation 17:8 - The wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it is to go off into destruction. And when they see how the wild beast was, but is not, and yet will be present, those who dwell on the earth will wonder admiringly, but their names have not been written upon the scroll of life from the founding of the world.

What is this some kind of double talk? Well thank God we have his spirit to dissect and reassemble this scripture to correctly identify the wild beast of revelation. After all, peoples lives are at stake and once we gain the accurate knowledge of Gods word, we are under obligation to tell others about this life saving news. So lets get started.

First of all we need to identify this wild beast for what it is, a political identity. How do we know this? We know it will be some kind of political entity because the bible tells us this in Rev. 17:8-11  8 The wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it is to go off into destruction. And when they see how the wild beast was, but is not, and yet will be present, those who dwell on the earth will wonder admiringly, but their names have not been written upon the scroll of life from the founding of the world. 9"Here is where the intelligence that has wisdom comes in: The seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top.   10 And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived, but when he does arrive he must remain a short while. 11 And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also itself an eighth king, but springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction.

So This wild beast becomes what the bible says is a "eighth king" That springs forth from the seven, meaning it ows its exsistance to the seven previous world powers. Well have there been seven "kings" or world powers? At the time of this scriptures writing (96 c.e on the island of patmos) the world power at the time was rome. In his vision john said five have fallen;(1. Egypt, 2. Assyria, 3. Babylon, 4. Medo-Persia, 5. Greece) one is (6.Rome) the other has not arrived (7. Anglo-America) but when he does arrive he must remain a short while.

So now we need to identify who or what has been given the support and power from the nations of the world and the picture will become clearer. With the backing of 192 countries the United Nations come out as the clear winner of all this support. Note what the Revelation its grand climax at hand book says: "Original members of the League of Nations included, along with Great Britain, governments that ruled in the seats of some of the previous heads, namely Greece, Iran (Persia), and Italy (Rome). Eventually, governments ruling the territory controlled by the previous six world powers came to be supportive members of the image of the wild beast. In this sense, too, it could be said that this scarlet-colored wild beast sprang from the seven world powers.

Notice that the scarlet-colored wild beast "is also itself an eighth king." Thus, the United Nations today is designed to look like a world government. At times it has even acted like one, sending armies into the field to resolve international disputes, as in Korea, the Sinai Peninsula, some African countries, and Lebanon. But it is only the image of a king. Like a religious image, it has no real influence or power apart from what is invested in it by those who brought it into existence and worship it.

Just look at the subtle nuances that the news reports about the UN recently.

"The United Nations called on Tuesday for a new global reserve currency to end dollar supremacy which has allowed the United States the "privilege" of building a huge trade deficit." These are pretty strong words from the UN. To make a call like that, About the UN's largest financial and political supporter, could make on think that something extraordinary is brewing on the world political stage! With the debt and financial instability of the US, to abandon the dollar most likely would destroy the US as we know it.

The above link shows a more direct focus on not the US leading the way to solve the global issues, but the world leaders as a collective. In his historic speech at the UN Security council obama said: "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges." A little later he said: "In the year 2009 — more than at any point in human history — the interests of nations and peoples are shared," It is very clear that this eighth king is the United Nations as a collective that rises up next. The US is in deep trouble and the world seems to be turning their back on them, the bible told us this would happen and we are now seeing the beginning of the power shift to th UN. Hold on ladies and gents, cause the scene of this present world is changing fast!

Matthew 24:21.... Does this apply to us today?

Matthew 24:21 - For then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again.

These famous words were spoken over two thousand years ago, by Jesus speaking to his apostles in his famous sermon on the mount. This will be the theme of this blog, and will include many scriptures to help us identify if these words spoken so long ago really apply to us today. We will also compare current events with what the bible prophesied, and see if they line up to help us figure out what is happening to this world.

Well first things first, are these words meant for us today or have they already been fulfilled? Lets look at the question Jesus apostles asked Him.  Matt. 24:3 -  While he was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” Pay close attention to Jesus response!

Notice the apostles asked what will be the sign of your PRESENCE and of the conclusion of this system of things. They asked what is the sign of his presence and not of his coming. His presence would be marked by signs. What signs?

Matt. 24:6 - YOU are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that YOU are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. 8 All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress.

Verse 6 tells us we will hear of wars and reports of wars, and verse 7 says kingdom will rise against kingdom. Although wars have gone on since very early in mans existence, note what a report from the Worldwatch Institute states: “Three times as many people fell victim to war in [the 20th] century as in all the wars from the first century AD to 1899.” More than 100 million people have died as a result of wars since 1914. Yes wars have increased in severity and quantity since the beginning of the 20th century!

The latter part of verse 7 says earthquakes and food shortages will occur in one place after another. Earthquakes have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in the last 100 years. And even though farming techniques and progress gives us plenty of food, there are millions dying of hunger every year.

To answer the other part of the apostles question concerning the conclusion of this system of things, lets read what 1Timothy 3:1-5 says.  - 1 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.

Its scary when we can see all these things happening on a grand scale today. So we have clear evidence that we truly are living in the conclusion or last days of this wicked system. What other evidence can we find? Well here are a couple of links that really you could find at anytime in the news.

Speaking of those who have a form of godly devotion yet prove false to its power, check out this quote from the pope.

"There is urgent need of a true world political authority. .. to manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result; to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration… such an authority would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all, regard for justice, and respect for rights.” – pope ratzinger.

A true world political authority? One that is universally recognized? Jesus said His followers were NO PART OF THIS WORLD, and to put trust in the political authorities and not God to fix the problems of this ailing world shows conclusivly that they are not Jesus followers.

Check back soon for the next entry where we will discuss the emerging political authority, who it is and what its goal is.
